A CONVERSATION WITH...SIDNEY LUMET
From his Oscar-nominated directorial debut with 1957's 12 ANGRY MEN, Sidney Lumet has been an unequivocal auteur. He has directed over 50 films to date, including such classics as SERPICO (1973), MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS (1974), DOG DAY AFTERNOON (1975), NETWORK (1976), THE WIZ (1978), and THE VERDICT (1982). The most recent addition to his body of work, BEFORE THE DEVIL KNOWS YOU'RE DEAD, marks a return to the urban crime drama which has so shaped his ouevre. No other director captures the grittiness of New York City with such astuteness, while so seamlessly integrating social themes into profoundly human stories. Under Mr. Lumet's direction, ensemble casts deliver landmark performances; he has directed 17 actors in Oscar-winning roles. We are extraordinarily pleased to host this director, actor, author, and inimitable cinema legend, and look forward to a conversation sure to be as distinctive as his work.
